I was using Movable Type as the blogging engine, but they’ve gone much more commercial since I first built the site. I decided to find a free alternative.

I noticed that many of my favorite podcasters (more on this later), use WordPress. So, I decided to check it out. It seems to be fine so far and the installation was much easier than Movable Type.

The next step is going to be training Melody to use this so that she can contribute content as well. If all goes well, there will be more to come.

The new version also includes an anti-spam module that should cut down or eliminate the spam in the comments.

I hadn’t posted any new pictures in the photo gallery for awhile because I was waiting to rebuild it. I had created it with full-size images (2MB a piece) from my camera and quickly ran out of storage space on my hosting provider. So I’ve finally rebuilt the gallery with smaller pictures (you won’t notice a difference, though). I’ve also added lots of pictures from the holidays.

I couldn’t resist taking this opportunity to post a funny picture of my brother Dan. Melody and I really miss his company now that we are living in St. Louis and he still lives in Springfield, MO. While we lived in Springfield, we saw him every other day on average. We love and miss you Dan!

That’s a picture I took while Mom, JT and I were at Ocean Beach in San Francisco. I am pointing north. If you could follow the picture further north and east, around the peninsula, you would run into the Golden Gate bridge and the mouth of the San Francisco Bay. California is such a beautiful place!

  • more than one image on recent pics (more PERL programming)
  • copy Lubrano’s “What I’m Reading..” stuff (nice job on your site Mike)
  • archives section on index page
  • more work on Gallery plugin (generalize it for sharing)
  • “Web Log” on image title should be “Weblog”
  • links section
  • weather plugin
  • make non-index templates better looking
  • I’m sure I’ll think of more…
